Jollygunj, a new initiative by the byg brewsky group is a joyful take of the joie de vivre culture of old Calcutta. Silhouettes of colonial windows, forms of heritage building, mismatched bursts of colours from age-old coffee houses; fusion of flavours from the tiny and busy streets, are the medley of elements that have gone into creating this theatrical and special place. Created in three separate parts to represent generational shifts in design and taste, the whole space is anchored with two strong and complementary elements. A huge flower shaped canopy that is lit with little bulbs towers over the bar. On the opposite side, larger than life semi- circular shaped balconies are nostalgic of Calcutta courtyard homes with rounded projections.

The walls peeled plaster in some places and exposed bricks in others. The flooring at the entry consists of embossed cement tiles and as you go further in, the flooring changes to Shahbad stone. The staircase is also reminiscent of an old coffee house in Calcutta. Old doors and grills have been sourced and repurposed.

The space, given how large it is, manages to create small charming nooks and maintains a festive and joyful vibe.
